Welcome our UC Bath/Brunswick Center Director!

Thomas Nickerson, Center Director at University College at Bath/BrunswickTom Nickerson is the Director of University College Bath/Brunswick and works to strengthen the Center’s Learning Community to support students, faculty and staff in achieving each student’s academic and career goals.  Prior to joining University College, Tom directed Southern Maine Community College’s Maine is IT! initiative to prepare students for careers in the IT sector. Previously, Tom worked with Goodwill Industries locally and nationally to build relationships with community colleges; he has also been the executive director of two nonprofits:  the Cumberland County Training Resource Center (Portland, ME), a community-based agency, which focused on Workforce Investment Act adult and youth employment services, Older Worker training, and AmeriCorps programs; and the Jersey City Episcopal Community Development Corporation (Jersey City, NJ), a faith-based agency that developed affordable housing, provided welfare to work training, and operated supportive housing programs for persons with HIV/AIDS.

Tom has more than 15 years of experience leading employment and training services in urban and rural communities. Tom has a B.A. in political science from Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and a Master of Social Work, with a concentration in Community Development, from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ). He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Mali 86-89). Tom grew up in Brunswick and now lives in Yarmouth with his wife Patricia.
