University College can help you access the full range of college courses that the University of Maine System is offering for students who are interested in taking courses this summer. University College programming offers a wide variety of college courses and convenient schedules for students looking to stay on track or get ahead in their degree programs.
Summer is a great time to take an extra college course. Yes, it is hard to think about another course as one finishes midterms and prepares for finals; however, summer courses, especially online or video conference courses, present popular and affordable options to move closer to your goal of finishing your degree.
Summer courses are the same as semester-based courses, except they more condensed so that you can finish a course in a 7 or 14 week time frame. A summer schedule can be built around your work or vacation plans. Summer courses are usually offered two days a week for slightly longer class time to ensure you can finish the material in shorter period. With a modest investment in time, you can achieve college credits that meet your career goals and graduation requirements. These courses should also transfer to your institution depending upon your degree program, so be sure to meet with one of the University College advisors to discuss any transfer needs.
In making your decision to take one or two courses this summer, here are four points to consider:
- Get ahead in degree program
- Make up or catch up a course
- Smaller classes, more access to faculty
- Less distractions
