Popular Health Care Programs available at UC
Despite a challenging economic climate, health care remains one of the fastest-growing occupational areas in the nation. University College Centers offer courses from the University of Maine System campuses leading to degrees or certificates in holistic health, dental hygiene, medical lab technology, mental health and human services, nursing, gerontology and more. Classes for the Spring 2013 semester begin in January.
Courses are taught online or delivered to the center via interactive television and video conference from the campuses of the University of Maine System. This spring, health care courses available at University College range from Healing and Spirituality to Advanced Pharmacology.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, seven of the 20 fastest-growing occupations are in the field of health care. From 2008 to 2018, healthcare and social-assistance employment will expand by nearly 4 million jobs, to 19.8 million, according to BLS projections.
