Student Success

Kristin Belyea

“I was working at a local store, and it was really hard to make ends meet, and I knew that I had to go back to school. When I learned that there was center in my hometown and that they had a business degree, everything started to fall into place. I went in and met with the director, and she was able, that day, to set me up with classes for the fall, and it just went on from there and I couldn’t be happier. I really couldn’t.  That sounds so corny but I’m so happy to be here.

It builds your confidence. It builds your self esteem. It makes you want to strive to be the best student that you can be.  In college here at my center this is the first time I’ve been a straight A student and that was a huge accomplishment for me, and my whole family was excited and they’re all proud.

My son is three years old and he goes to a preschool, and he couldn’t be more thrilled that while he’s at school mommy’s going to school too. When I pick him up from school I ask him what he’s learned and he turns around and asks me what I’ve learned, and that’s kind of a challenge to answer, but it’s neat that my son and I have something in common and something that we can reflect upon at the end of the day.

I want my son to know that it doesn’t matter who you are or how old you are or what situation that you’re in, that you can still better yourself and I’m setting that example for him by going back to school. ”
