Degree Options Expanded for Students through New UMA-USM Partnership
LEWISTON – The University of Southern Maine (USM) and the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) will hold an Open House on Wednesday, April 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC), located at 51 Westminster St, Lewiston.
This first-ever joint open house of the two universities will provide an opportunity for prospective students to meet with admissions staff of both schools, and learn more about USM and UMA degree programs, financial aid and tuition costs.
Registration is now open for summer and fall 2018 classes, and anyone interested in taking classes on a part-time or full-time basis is encouraged to attend.
UMA has recently introduced new programs in Business and Public Administration at the Lewiston campus, along with two baccalaureate degrees in Applied Science and Liberal Studies for community college graduates who have earned an associate’s degree. An option to enroll in education classes that provide a pathway for K-12 teaching opportunities is also now available.
UMA’s new programs are being offered alongside USM undergraduate programs in Leadership and Organizational Studies, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. At the graduate level, students can choose from USM’s Leadership Studies and Occupational Therapy programs.
“The University of Southern Maine is deeply committed to serving students in Central Maine and beyond. Our partnership with UMA allows us to expand the number of courses and academic programs on our Lewiston campus. We are honored to be working with our colleagues at UMA and together we will provide more educational opportunities and services for the residents of this region,” said Nancy Griffin, USM’s Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs.
“We are pleased to expand our partnership with USM and the offerings available on their Lewiston campus,” said Jonathan Henry, UMA Vice President of Enrollment Management and Marketing. “By collaborating with our sister institution, we provide more opportunities for Mainers seeking to obtain a post-secondary degree.”
As USM and UMA build on this partnership, additional options under consideration for Lewiston-Auburn College include expanded offerings in Nursing and Health Professions, Occupational Therapy, Cyber Security, Justice Studies, and Mental Health and Human Services.
