Each day when Jean Henderson arrives at the University College (UC) Center at Houlton, she embraces the opportunity to help new and current students reach their best potential through access to higher education. Whatever stage they are along their higher education journey, they are empowered to succeed by Henderson and other UC professionals.
As a UC Student Services Coordinator, Henderson assists students at every stage of their college experience. Whether filling out their first financial aid application or requesting tutoring help, thanks to the support provided by Henderson and her colleagues, UC students are never left to their own devices.
Henderson first demystifies the process of beginning one’s college career, and then guides students as they progress. She says that often students literally breathe a sigh of relief when they are empowered to succeed and realize that they are never alone.
The message that Henderson conveys to both new and returning students is that the opportunity to pursue education is for everyone at any stage of life, not just traditional age students who live on campus.
