In academic writing I and me aren’t generally accepted; however, it’s still important to know when to use I in a sentence and when to use me! Generally people get confused with the difference when they are using I or me in a list including other people. The best way to know the difference is to take the other people out of the sentence and figure out which to use (I or me) and then add them back in.
Do you want to go to the movies with Michelle, Lisa, and _?
Do you want to go to the movies with me?
Do you want to go to the movies with Michelle, Lisa, and me?
Can Kristine, Trish, and _ go with you?
Can I go with you?
Can Kristine, Trish and I go with you?
